Newcastle United will reportedly wait for a concrete update on Alexander Isak’s future before launching a formal approach for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.

The Senegal international has asked to be sold before the end of the summer transfer window and he has reportedly set his sights on completing a move to St James’ Park.

The 24-year-old was omitted from Chelsea’s matchday squad for their pre-season fixtures against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday and AC Milan on Sunday, and he has been forced to train alone as he bids to secure a summer transfer.

Reports have speculated that he has been offered to a number of Premier League clubs so far this summer, although he “favours” a move to Newcastle, according to The Telegraph.

Chelsea want at least €75 million for Jackson and rumours state that he could cost as much as €90m, with the Blues believing he is of a similar value to Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko – who have both moved to the Premier League for huge transfer fees over the past month.

Nicolas Jackson to Newcastle?

Although Jackson wants to join Newcastle this summer, Eddie Howe’s side will not make a concrete move for the Senegal star until Isak’s future becomes clearer, as per the PA news agency (via Football.London).

The Sweden international has been exiled from Newcastle first-team training after handing in a transfer request and Liverpool are interested in signing him for a Premier League record fee.

However, the Magpies are reluctant to sanction a sale and it remains to be seen if Isak will be allowed to complete a blockbuster summer move to Anfield.

If he is sold to Liverpool, Newcastle are likely to intensify their pursuit of Jackson – having already missed out on the aforementioned Pedro, Delap, Ekitike and Sesko so far this summer.
