Chelsea have reportedly identified Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers as a key transfer target amid their pursuit of attacking reinforcements this summer.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a sensational campaign with Unai Emery’s side and he is being monitored by a host of top clubs across Europe, as per The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Rogers, who is now a fully-fledged England international, has scored 14 goals and provided 13 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions so far this season, and Chelsea are among the teams eager to sign him this summer.

That is according to The Independent, who claim that Chelsea believe there may be an opportunity to land the Englishman this summer, despite the fact that Villa are eager to retain him.

Rogers still has five years remaining on his current deal at Villa Park, after signing a contract extension in November, but Profit and Sustainability Rules could force the club to consider a sale if Chelsea submit a suitable offer.

The 22-year-old has seen his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) soar amid his immense form over the past few months and he is now worth a whopping €79.6 million, as per FootballTransfers’ in-house valuation.

Rogers is currently the seventh-most valuable English player in world football – behind Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Bukayo Saka, Harry Kane and Phil Foden – and Chelsea reportedly view him as a player capable of bolstering their attacking threat next season as they look to improve the forward options at Enzo Maresca’s disposal.

Chelsea to sign Morgan Rogers?

Chelsea’s interest in Rogers will come as welcome news to the aforementioned Palmer, who is close friends with the Aston Villa star.

The pair played together in Manchester City’s academy set-up and Rogers even invented the ‘cold’ celebration that has been adopted by Palmer over the past year.

Although Rogers is naturally an attacking midfielder, he has frequently been deployed as a winger by Emery this campaign and he would likely line up on the left of Chelsea’s attack if a proposed move to Stamford Bridge goes through.
