Chelsea have reportedly reached a “gentlemen’s agreement” to allow Djordje Petrovic to leave the club this summer if an offer of €30 million is submitted.

The Serbia international spent last season on loan at sister club Strasbourg, following the arrival of Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal, and he enjoyed a fantastic campaign under Liam Rosenior as the club achieved their second-highest finishing position since 1980.

The Athletic claim that Petrovic asked Chelsea to be excluded from their Club World Cup squad in order to prioritise a summer transfer and he has reportedly been informed that a sale will be permitted if he is able to find a club willing to pay a fee of €30m for his services.

Five teams across Europe are reportedly interested in signing the 25-year-old this summer, but he will be forced to return to Chelsea for pre-season training if he is unable to find a new club in the next month.

Djordje Petrovic to return to Strasbourg?

Despite reports that Petrovic could potentially return to Strasbourg next season, Marc Keller, the French side’s president, believes the Serbian is unlikely to rejoin the club.

He told RMC Sport: “I don’t think [that he’ll come back to Strasbourg] simply because he is a player of incredible quality and I think that he can probably target a Champions League or Europa League side, either [by staying] at Chelsea or elsewhere should he leave.”

Petrovic still has five years remaining on his current contract at Chelsea, but the Blues have seemingly decided that his future lies elsewhere and they are open to a sale this summer.
