Arsenal are closing in on Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres are many months of chasing the attacker.
Gyokeres first came on the Gunnersā radar when he was at Coventry City, but they were ultimately convinced to sign the Sweden international after two prolific years in Lisbon with Sporting.
Amid drama behind the scenes as the player and his agent fell out with the Portuguese giants, a transfer agreement finally appears to have been thrashed out.
How much will Coventry earn from Gyokeres to Arsenal?
Coventry City are set to land a significant windfall as part of the move, confirming Gyokeres as their record signing.
The Sky Blues arranged a 15% sell-on clause as part of the move that took the 27-year-old to Lisbon in the summer of 2023.
At the time, Coventry sold him for ā¬20m plus ā¬4m of bonuses, all of which have been achieved.
Sporting, though, moved last summer to reduce the Championship sideās stake in the player from 15% to 10%. In order to do this, they paid ā¬3m.
This means that Coventry stand to land 10% of the capital gain the Portuguese side make on Gyokeres.
Should the reports of Arsenalās fee be accurate, Sportingās gain on the player will be ā¬41m. Coventry will be entitled to ā¬4.1m of this.
This sell-on figure alone ā excluding Gyokeresā transfer fee ā represents a huge transfer windfall for Frank Lampardās side ahead of the new campaign.
Indeed, this will be the fifth-biggest transfer fee that Coventry have received</a> over the course of the last 20 years.
Gyokeresā move to Arsenal, then, is not only a potentially game-changing switch for the Emirates club, but also Coventry.
