The incident occurred early on in the innings after Australian captain Steve Smith invited England to bat first after winning the toss. England openers Phil Salt and Ben Duckett arrived on the crease at the Gaddafi Stadium with the intent of scoring some quick runs for their team and put early pressure on the Aussies.
However, their plan could not bear any fruit for the English side as a full-length ball on the toes from Ben Dwarshuis in the 2nd over of the innings was driven in the air on the on-side by Salt with the hope that it would get past Carey. However, the left-handed batter quickly placed himself on the right and dived to stick his hand in the air to grab the ball in an emphatic manner. The stunning catch marked the end of Saltâs innings on just 10 runs off 6 balls.
