Delhi Capitals’ captain Meg Lanning reveals the plan for success in the WPL 2025

For Delhi Capitals (DC), the Women’s Premier League (WPL) has been a story of dominance in the league stage but heartbreak in the final. With back-to-back final heartbreaks fueling their hunger, Delhi will be keen to make WPL 2025 the year they finally lift the trophy.

Under Meg Lanning’s leadership, the team has already showcased their ability to dominate the league stage, but the real challenge lies in delivering under pressure when it matters the most. In WPL 2023, they fell short against Mumbai Indians (MI), and in 2024, they were outplayed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Despite these setbacks, captain Lanning remains optimistic that a few minor adjustments can help them finally clinch the elusive title in 2025.

Meg Lanning’s plan for success in WPL 2025

Reflecting on DC’s performances, Lanning acknowledged that while they have played excellent cricket, the key to success lies in fine-tuning their approach rather than overhauling strategies. She further emphasized small tactical changes rather than drastic shifts in approach

“We’ve had two good seasons without obviously being able to finish it off the way we would have liked in winning the title. The key for us is maintaining what we’ve been doing well. We think we have been playing some really good cricket and doing a lot of things right. “We’re just evolving and making a few little changes here and there that we think will make a big difference, and hopefully allow us to take that next step. It’s not [a] big shift from us,” Lanning was quoted as saying by the ESPNcricinfo.

Strengthening the squad for 2025

Delhi will launch their campaign against defending champions Mumbai on February 15 in Vadodara. With new additions to the squad and existing players improving, Lanning believed Delhi is in a strong position heading into WPL 2025.

“We’ve added some new players, and also the players who have been here previously have also improved and gotten better as well. We feel like we’re in a really good spot. It’s not about changing too much. We’ve been doing a lot right. It’s just some small things here and there to take us to the next step,” Lanning concluded.

Delhi’s core squad remains strong, with key players Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Alice Capsey, Marizanne Kapp, and Jess Jonassen continuing to be pivotal in their WPL campaigns. However, DC has also looked to strengthen its bench strength and add depth to ensure they have all bases covered for the next edition.
