Fans have been buzzing with reactions after Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) announced Pat Cummins as their new captain for the upcoming IPL 2024 season. The star Australian fast bowler, aged 30, steps into the leadership role, replacing Aiden Markram as the franchise aims for a fresh start following a disappointing finish in the previous season.

Pat Cummings to make a debut as captain in the IPL

This marks Cummins’ debut as a captain in the IPL, and his appointment sees him reunite with Daniel Vettori, the newly appointed head coach of SRH, who also serves as an assistant coach for the Australian team.

The announcement was made by SRH on their social media platforms, generating significant attention from fans and cricket enthusiasts alike.

Cummins, who was acquired by SRH for a hefty sum of INR 20.5 crore at last year’s IPL auction in Dubai, becomes the second Australian to lead the Orange Army after David Warner, who captained SRH in 67 matches from 2015 to 2021. Cummins has previously represented Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL.

SRH eyeing captaincy magic from Pat Cummins

While Markram had led Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) to consecutive titles in the SA20 tournament, SRH’s lacklustre performance in the IPL 2023, coupled with Cummins’ impressive leadership skills demonstrated during Australia’s triumphs in the ICC World Test Championship 2023 and the ODI World Cup 2023, prompted the change in leadership.

The Kavya Maran-owned franchise is expecting a captaincy magic from Cummins in the IPL this year.

Mixed reactions of SRH fans

As SRH gears up for the new season, fans have come up with mixed reactions on the appointment of Cummins as the new captain.
