The 4-match T20I series between South Africa and India has reached an intriguing phase, with both teams having one win each. India dominated the first T20I in Durban, securing a convincing 61-run victory. However, South Africa bounced back strongly in Gqeberha on Sunday, clinching a thrilling three-wicket win to level the series. With the stakes high, former Proteas cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has weighed in on the outcome, offering his thoughts on what might unfold in the remaining matches.

Herschelle Gibbs predicts the scoreline and winner of SA vs IND T20I series

Gibbs, known for his explosive batting and sharp cricketing insights, shared his prediction for the series. Reflecting on the first two games, he emphasized that South Africa have a full-strength squad, while India are playing without some of their key experienced players. Gibbs believes this could give the Proteas an edge, despite India’s depth in talent.

“Anything can happen. I think those sorts of wickets will suit the Indians more. Then come Johannesburg and the Wanderers at Super Sport Park, I’m expecting some high scoring games. Anything can happen in those games,” Gibbs told SportsBoom.

With the series now tied, Gibbs foresees South Africa securing a 3-1 victory, citing their team strength and experience in handling pressure situations.

“After the first two games, the Proteas are with a full-strength team. India come with a team that’s not as experienced. I’m expecting at least a 3-1 series win with the Proteas,” predicted Gibbs.

India’s depth in talent and ability to thrive under pressure

Gibbs acknowledged India’s depth in talent, despite not having their big names in the squad for the series. He pointed out that the Indian team thrives under pressure and in high-stakes situations, particularly in front of large crowds, something they are accustomed to. With the conditions in Durban and Port Elizabeth potentially suiting India, Gibbs reckoned the team could perform well in these venues. He emphasized that the remaining games will be crucial, expecting high-scoring encounters and highlighting that India’s depth will make it a challenging and exciting test for both sides.

“I think they’ve got a lot of depth. Even though the big names are not here. They thrive on pressure and big occasions. They thrive on big crowds because they’re used to playing in front of big crowds. With the conditions in Durban and Port Elizabeth, they might fancy themselves there. Like I said, the last two games, anything can happen, and I expect big scores. India has the depth there. It’ll be a good test,” Gibbs added further.
