The Champions Trophy 2025 campaign for India got off to a dream start as the team put up a dominating show against Bangladesh in their first encounter of the tournament at the Dubai International Stadium. A marquee moment of India’s dominance with the bowl against Bangladesh came when Mohammed Shami managed to pull together a sensational delivery to dismiss Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar during the initial moments of the first innings.

The incident took place on the last ball of the first over after Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat first. Shami troubled the Bangladeshi opener throughout the over with his impeccable seam movement and lethal line and length. The fruit of his brilliant over came on the final ball as he pitched a good-length outside off stump to Sarkar.
The right-handed batter, who struggled against Shami during the first 5 balls, completely mistimed the incoming ball and edged it into the hands of wicket-keeper KL Rahul. Sarkar’s wicket opened the floodgates of dismissals for Bangladesh as Indian bowlers decimated the entire Bangladeshi top-order.

Following Sarkar’s dismissal skipper Najmul Hasan Shanto was sent back to the pavilion by Harshit Rana in the very next over. After which, Mehidy Hasan Miraz too could not continue for much longer and was dismissed by Shami while interfering with another good-length ball from Shami which was caught in the slips by Shubman Gill. The two sides have faced each other 41 times before this encounter with India dominating Bangladesh on 32 occasions.
