Ruturaj Gaikwad Retires Hurt in Duleep Trophy Match

The fourth match of the Duleep Trophy 2024-25 between India B and India C is underway at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B in Anantapur. India B, having won the toss, opted to bowl first. India C’s captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, made a confident start, striking a boundary on the very first ball against Mukesh Kumar. However, the promising start took a downturn as Gaikwad had to retire hurt in the same over.

Cause of Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury

The exact nature of Gaikwad’s injury remains unclear, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to release an official statement. There are speculations that the India C skipper may have twisted his ankle, while some reports suggest that he was struck on the hand, leading to visible discomfort before he was forced to leave the field and return to the dressing room.

No live streaming of the game

Unfortunately for fans, there is no live streaming or telecast available for the match, making details around the incident scarce. India C is playing their second fixture of the tournament, having won their opening game against India D, where Gaikwad contributed significantly with a 46-run knock off 48 balls, steering his team to victory.

Gaikwad’s injury history

If the injury proves to be serious, it would add to the series of unfortunate setbacks in Gaikwad’s red-ball career. Previously, he missed out on the South Africa Test tour due to a finger injury and has yet to regain his spot in the Test side. His recent form in the Duleep Trophy had shown promise, but this injury could once again hinder his red-ball aspirations.
