Dinesh Karthik’s stunning catch sets the tone for Paarl Royals

The dismissal came on the first ball of Dayyaan Galiem’s spell, as the bowler angled one in sharply at the pads. Omarzai, attempting a leg-glance, could only manage a deflection off the closed face of his bat. Karthik, stationed behind the stumps, reacted with lightning speed, diving full stretch to his right to pluck the ball mid-air. Though the ball bobbled out of his glove momentarily, Karthik’s quick reflexes ensured it nestled securely on the rebound, completing an extraordinary dismissal.

Omarzai’s promising knock of 13 off 11 balls, including two crisp boundaries, came to an abrupt end, leaving Cape Town jubilant. The catch not only showcased Karthik’s athleticism but also provided MI Cape Town with an early breakthrough, setting the tone for the remainder of the match. It was a moment of pure brilliance that will be remembered as one of the standout plays of the tournament.

Rassie van der Dussen anchors MI Cape Town’s

The ninth match of the SA20 2025 season between Cape Town and Royals at Boland Park, Paarl, saw MI Cape Town put up a challenging 131/4 in 18 overs with two overs remaining. After electing to field, the Royals struck early with Galiem dismissing Omarzai for 13 in the fourth over. Despite the early setback, Rassie van der Dussen held the innings together with a well-paced, unbeaten 67 off 55 balls, hitting four boundaries and three sixes.

Reeza Hendricks chipped in with a steady 30 off 27 balls, building a crucial 50-run partnership with Van der Dussen for the second wicket. However, timely breakthroughs by Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Joe Root restricted Cape Town’s acceleration in the middle overs. George Linde (10) and Dewald Brevis (8 off 4) failed to capitalize on promising starts, with Brevis falling to a delivery from Mujeeb.

The Royals’ bowlers maintained discipline, with Dunith Wellalage delivering a stellar spell of just 17 runs in his four overs. Mujeeb Rahman emerged as the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 for 27. Despite the disciplined bowling, the Cape Town managed to build a solid platform, setting the stage for an exciting chase under the lights.
