Fans unhappy with BCCI’s decision to rest Virat Kohli for Australia ODIs

On Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, set to commence on September 22.

The selectors decided to rest key players ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, scheduled to kick off on October 5 in India. This move aims to ensure the freshness and optimal performance of these crucial players during the marquee tournament. Consequently, prominent figures like Virat, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav will be absent from the initial two ODIs.

The decision to implement this strategy, particularly the exclusion of Virat, who has hardly played 50-over games this year, made fans and critics unhappy. Some even raised concerns, speculating that the move might be an attempt to safeguard Sachin Tendulkar‘s record of most hundreds in ODI cricket.

Virat, who boasts an impressive tally of 47 ODI centuries, stands just two centuries away from matching the Master Blaster’s record for the most ODI hundreds. This milestone has garnered significant attention and sparked debates within the cricket lovers.
