Tempers flared at the Eden Gardens during the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clash as Virat Kohli, the former captain of RCB, unleashed a tirade against the umpires following a contentious dismissal in Sunday’s match.
Disputed decision ignites Virat Kohli’s fury
Kohli, who was displaying fine form, found himself at the center of controversy after being dismissed in a bizarre manner. The dismissal occurred when Harshit Rana‘s delivery seemed to breach the no-ball line, prompting widespread belief, even among commentators, that it should have been deemed illegal.
Umpire review sparks outrage as Kohli gets angry
Despite the apparent violation, the umpires opted for a review, which concluded that the delivery was legitimate in terms of height, leading to Kohli’s dismissal. The decision left Kohli visibly perplexed and irate, with RCB skipper Faf du Plessis also engaging in animated discussions with the match officials.
Initially walking off the field, Kohli later returned to confront the umpires, expressing his discontent vehemently before finally exiting. His frustration was evident as he shook his head while departing and exchanged words with his team’s bench. Kohli had been showcasing his batting prowess, contributing significantly to RCB’s pursuit of the formidable target set by KKR.

KKR’s dominant batting display
KKR’s innings saw an explosive start, courtesy of Phil Salt’s blistering knock of 48 runs off just 14 balls. Salt’s onslaught, particularly against Lockie Ferguson, set the tone for KKR’s innings. Despite losing wickets in quick succession, Shreyas Iyer’s composed fifty and late contributions from Ramandeep Singh and Andre Russell propelled KKR to a daunting total of 222 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
