The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium witnessed a dramatic moment when LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi dismissed PBKS opener Priyansh Arya and celebrated with a fiery gesture. Rathi emulated West Indies bowler Kesrick Williams‘ iconic “notebook celebration,” adding a personal touch to his performance but stirring controversy in the process.

Digvesh Rathi emulates Kesrick Williams’ iconic celebration

Rathi was introduced into the attack by LSG captain Rishabh Pant during the third over of PBKS’s innings. After Arya had hit him for a boundary earlier in the over, Rathi struck back on the fifth ball, delivering a short ball outside off that Arya mistimed. The shot resulted in a top-edge, and Shardul Thakur safely completed the catch at mid-on, giving LSG their first breakthrough.

As Arya walked back to the pavilion, Rathi ran towards him and performed the notebook celebration, pretending to write Arya’s name in an imaginary notebook before checking it off. This gesture, popularized by Kesrick, added intensity to the moment but drew immediate attention from the on-field umpire, who warned Rathi about his actions.
