Crystal Palace set to be THROWN OUT of the Europa League, as Lyon's appeal to stay in France's top division is upheld

Crystal Palace are set to be thrown out of the Europa League after Lyon’s appeal to stay in Ligue 1 was upheld – but it is not confirmed.

The London club qualified for the competition after winning the FA Cup but a complication arose due to John Textor owning stakes in both clubs.

The decision rests with UEFA as to whether Palace will be allowed to compete in the Europa League, but they could be set to be demoted to the Europa Conference League.

Lyon wrote in a statement: ‘Olympique Lyonnais welcomes today’s decision by the DNCG to keep the Club in Ligue 1. OL thanks the Appeals Committee for recognizing the ambition of the Club’s new management.

‘The new management, supported by the commitment and dedication of our shareholders and lenders, is extremely grateful for all the support received both within and outside the Club, including from its supporters, employees, players, partners and elected officials.

‘Today’s decision is the first step in restoring confidence in Olympique Lyonnais. We can now focus our attention on our sporting objectives and fully prepare for next season.’
