Chelsea have completed the €50 million signing of Jorrel Hato with the transfer to be made official imminently.

Nicolo Schira reported early on Tuesday morning that Hato’s move from Ajax to Chelsea was a “done deal and confirmed”.

Hato has agreed a contract until 2033, with Chelsea completing the deal for a player they have been working on since May.

Hato to Chelsea

Fabrizio Romano reported a few hours earlier that Chelsea and Ajax had progressed in talks for Hato on Monday and that the deal was at the final stages.

Romano said that the two clubs were close to a full agreement.

The conensus is that this transfer should be officially announced in the coming hours or days.

Hato was notably absent from the Ajax squad that played in the Como Cup final on Sunday, suggesting the talks were at an advanced stage.

Chelsea initially bid €40m for the 19-year-old but the Amsterdam club rejected this offer.

Negotiations, though, appear to have gone smoothly, with the transfer closed at €50m.

Hato, who Arsenal also followed earlier this summer, has an Expected Transfer Value (ETV) of €46.2m, so any price around the €50m mark would appear to represent fair value to all parties.

Hato reportedly asked Ajax’s management to leave him out of the squad that suffered a 3-0 loss to Como on Sunday.

It is claimed that he feared that he might pick up an injury that would prevent him from making the move to Chelsea – a switch that he is “eager” to complete, according to Dutch sources.

The teenager had an excellent season under manager Francesco Farioli. As a left-back, Hato regularly impressed with strong performances, and those results now earn him a move to Chelsea.
