Erik ten Hag is a Dutch football manager who has had a long and successful career in the sport. He is currently the manager of Ajax, but his career has taken him to many different clubs and countries.
Ten Hag began his career in the Netherlands, managing several clubs in the Dutch Eredivisie. He had a successful stint at FC Utrecht, leading them to the Dutch Cup final in 2008. He then moved to Germany to manage Bayern Munich II, where he won the 3. Liga title in 2010.
Ten Hag then moved to the Netherlands again, this time to manage Ajax. He led the club to the Eredivisie title in 2014-15 and the Dutch Cup in 2015-16. He also led Ajax to the UEFA Europa League final in 2017.
In 2018, Ten Hag was linked with a move to Manchester United, with then-manager Louis van Gaal reportedly keen to bring him to Old Trafford. However, Ten Hag had to dodge the “mines” laid by Cristiano Ronaldo, who was at the club at the time. Van Gaal reportedly warned Ten Hag not to go to United, as he felt the Portuguese superstar would be too difficult to manage.
Ten Hag eventually decided against the move, and instead stayed at Ajax. He has since led the club to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in 2019, and the Dutch Cup in 2020.
Ten Hag’s career has been a success, and his decision to dodge the “mines” laid by Ronaldo has certainly paid off. He has proven himself to be a top-class manager, and his success at Ajax is a testament to his ability.
