Europa League pitch covered in snow after blizzard hits just hours before kick-off – but the quarter-final clash is still ON

Bodo/Glimt’s Europa League clash with Lazio on Thursday night was thrown into doubt after a blizzard covered the pitch in snow hours before kick-off but the game is incredibly set to go ahead.

Former Norway star turned pundit Jan Age Fjortoft shocked fans when he shared a video of the Aspmyra Stadion on Thursday morning, writing ‘Welcome to Bodo, Lazio.’

In the clip, Flortoft pans around the ground, showing the entire pitch hidden by a thick layer of snow with more still falling.

However, UEFA confirmed that the quarter-final first leg will still go ahead as planned with a 5.45pm start.

The artificial pitch is designed for such circumstances and is considered to be ‘snow-proof’ with underfloor heating.

Groundstaff were hard at work throughout the day with tractors and snow snow ploughs to clear the surface ahead of kick-off.

Lazio finished top of the league phase of the competition and beat Viktoria Plzen in the last 16, while Bodo/Glimt saw off Olympiacos.
