Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP, with FootballTransfers able to exclusively confirm that the Gunners have pencilled in a medical for the Sweden international forward.

Mikel Arteta’s men have been tracking the Sweden international forward for months, but the long saga is close to coming to an end.

Arsenal have agreed to pay a total of around €80 million to Sporting CP for the 27-year-old striker. While the majority of this comes as an upfront payment, €10m will head to the Lisbon club by way of bonuses. It was these variable payments that have caused the sticking point in the negotiations.

But with the Gunners anticipating a breakthrough, Gyokeres’ medical has been scheduled in London this weekend.

It is unclear whether he will be jetting out to Singapore with the remainder of the Arsenal first-team squad, but it looks doubtful at this stage. Nevertheless, there is an appetite from both the club and the player that he has joined Mikel Arteta’s men by the time they face AC Milan on Wednesday.

Arteta’s jigsaw coming together

Arsenal are starting to make strong progress in the summer transfer market, with their squad starting to come together.

A deal for Valencia centre-back Christhian Mosquera is set to be completed imminently while Arteta seems to have found the attacking midfielder that he wants in the form of Chelsea attacker Noni Madueke.

With Gyokeres now closer than ever to signing for the club, Arsenal’s team for next season is starting to take shape just in time for the pre-season program to begin.
