Manchester United have made an official approach for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi as they look to rival Liverpool for his signature, FootballTransfers has been told.

The England international has just one year remaining on his current contract at Selhurst Park and Ruben Amorim’s side are eager to finalise a deal amid their pursuit of a new central defender.

The Red Devils believe Guehi could walk straight into the starting XI at Old Trafford, although they will face significant competition from Liverpool as the reigning Premier League champions are also interested in signing the 24-year-old before Transfer Deadline Day on 1 September.

Meanwhile, Man Utd have earmarked Bayern Munich centre-back Dayot Upamecano as an alternative target to Guehi, with the Frenchman set to be out of contract next summer, but the England star remains their preferred option as things stand.

We have also been informed that Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior has been identified as a potential replacement for Guehi at Selhurst Park. The Poland international may even be included in a deal for Eberechi Eze, with Mikel Arteta’s side eager to bring the 27-year-old to north London this summer.

Crystal Palace to sell Marc Guehi?

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish admitted that Guehi is likely to be sold this summer following the club’s victory over Liverpool in the Community Shield final on Sunday.

“For players of that calibre to leave on a free, it’s a problem for us unfortunately,” Parish told reporters.

“Joachim [Andersen] went [to Fulham last summer] and we couldn’t afford to lose both. We then had another bid [for Guehi] in January but that was a different situation.

“We’ll just have to see what happens. But, you know, it needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”

Guehi has made a total of 156 first-team appearances for Crystal Palace since joining the club from Chelsea in 2021, and his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €41.6m.
