Fabrizio Romano, the football transfer news reporter, has dropped a huge update on the future of Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker who is the subject of so many rumours as the summer window approaches.

Osimhen has been linked with a string of major clubs for more than a year, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all linked with the hitman, who has spent the last year on loan at Galatasaray.

“He wants the same salary he’s earning at Napoli — €12m net, plus commissions and his €75m release clause,” Romano has said.

“No English club is ready to pay him €12m net.”

Osimhen’s future away from the Premier League?

Osimhen had been poised to move to Chelsea last summer after the Blues struck a loan agreement late in the transfer window with Napoli but no deal was ever done because his salary was a sticking point.

The Blues were unwilling to break their wage structure to allow the prolific striker to join the club.

Manchester United have sent a similar message this summer, with reports on Friday indicating that a deal for Osimhen was proving “even more complicated than anticipated”. Romano’s update echoes this news.

While there is a danger that no Premier League side will meet Osimhen’s demands, that does not mean that he will not find a new club.

PSG came close to signing him last summer, agreeing terms over a contract with the player only for the deal to fall down because they could not come to an accord over a transfer fee with Napoli. As Osimhen has a €75m release clause this summer, this is likely to be less of an issue.

Clubs in the Saudi Pro League are also thought to be ready to pay Osimhen what he wants, although there is the question of whether he wants to move away from the European spotlight at such an early stage of his career.
