Marcus Rashford might not have played a competitive game for Barcelona since signing on loan from Manchester United, but the England international attacker has already made quite the impression at Camp Nou.
Rashford joined Barca after a rough campaign in which he was frozen out at Old Trafford by new head coach Ruben Amorim in December. Shipped to Aston Villa on loan, he enjoyed something of a revival in Birmingham but did not do enough to persuade Unai Emery’s men to break the bank to sign him.
Now he finds himself in La Liga for at least the next year, with Barcelona signing him on a temporary basis. While there are doubts over his registration and, therefore, ability to play for the Blaugrana in the short term, he is already making an impact in the dressing room.
Rashford’s addition into the squad has been “very good and for part of the team he represents playing next to their childhood idol”, Sport reports.
Nearly a decade after bursting onto the scene at Man Utd, the 27-year-old is remembered by many younger members of the Barcelona dressing room as a young phenomenon who carried a great burden of expectation early in his career. As such, he is still someone a good number of the youngsters look up to.
Guille Fernandez is one of the Barca starlets who particularly admired Rashford when he was growing up. The England star was his favourite player of FIFA.
This is said to have been an “unexpected gift” from Rashford.
Rashford’s work ethic praised
The Rashford that has turned up at Barcelona on loan appears very different to the one that Amorim fell out with at Carrington.
“Marcus’ entry to the Barcelona first-team dynamic has been very positive. He is said to be a reserved, kind and thorough boy. He’s put on his overalls for work and he does not intend to miss the opportunity, which is something he has fought a lot to have,” Sports says.
The only problem with Rashford’s integration at Barcelona appears to be the language barrier, but this will break down over the weeks and months ahead.
