Al-Ahli target Brazilian duo to replace Saint-Maximin

Al-Ahli are reportedly monitoring both Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus ahead of a potential move this summer.

The Jeddah-based club, who are one of four teams owned by the Saudi Arabian PIF, are hoping to strengthen ahead of the new campaign.

Al-Ahli were one of several teams to spend heavily last year, with Matthias Jaissle’s side bringing in the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Allan Saint-Maximin, Edouard Mendy, Roberto Firmino and Franck Kessie.

And, according to Saudi outlet Al-Riyadiyah, Al-Ahli have their eyes set on more signings, particularly after Saint-Maximin departed to join Fenerbahce on loan last week.

These include Brazilian forwards Richarlison and Jesus, with both players on Al-Ahli’s shortlist of potential additions as a replacement for Saint-Maximin.

The report goes onto claim that Jaissle is now assessing both players, with the German coach expected to give his backing to one of the two stars.

However, if Jaissle is unconvinced, it is expected that Al-Ahli will move elsewhere and focus on other targets.

Both Richarlison and Jesus are well-known to fans of the Premier League, with the Brazilian pair having also featured extensively for the Selecao.

Richarlison has represented Watford, Everton and Tottenham, scoring 73 goals across 259 games in English football.

He has also netted 20 times in 48 caps for Brazil, but missed out on the Copa America this summer due to a hamstring injury.

However, the forward – who has also been linked with Al-Hilal this summer – came out to rubbish reports speculating that he would move to the Middle East back in May.

Writing on his Instagram story, he said: ‘I left my vacation and came to work to come back better ahead of next season.

‘Regarding what’s been said in the media in the last few days, it’s fake news. I will NOT leave England ahead of next season.’

Meanwhile, Jesus is a four-time Premier League winner from his time at Man City, but the Arsenal striker has struggled for form and fitness over recent months.

He started just 17 top flight games last season, scoring four times, although the 27-year-old has still netted 114 goals in 305 games for the Gunners and City.

Jesus was similarly absent from Brazil’s Copa America squad, although this was a tactical decision by boss Dorival Junior.

Whatever happens, Al-Ahli will hope to challenge for the Saudi Pro League title after coming 31 points behind champions Al-Hilal last season, while they are also set to compete in the AFC Champions League.
