Arsenal defender Cedric Soares is emerging as a serious January target for Besiktas.

Talks over a move for the Portuguese right-back, who is surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium, to join the Turkish club are underway.

The finer details of the potential move are still to be decided with Soares into the final six months of his deal at Arsenal.

But sources with knowledge of the deal are indicating that an agreement is moving closer – but whether Soares joins immediately this month or as a Bosman at the end of the season still needs deciding.

One scenario could see Soares joining on loan this month before joining permanently in the summer.

Arsenal defender Cedric Soares has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta

The 32-year-old joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2020 but has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.

He has made just two senior appearances for the club so far this season.

Soares is free to discuss a summer transfer with overseas clubs given his deal expires in the summer.
