Bayern Munich reveal Harry Kane injury blow after he was forced off at half-time of their Champions League clash with Celtic

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane is set to take a break from training after suffering a minor calf injury.

The 31-year-old picked up the injury before Tuesday’s 1-1 Champions League draw with Celtic, which sealed a 3-2 aggregate win and Bayern’s place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

He still started the game at the Allianz Arena but was forced off at half-time and later revealed that he would be going for a scan to determine the extent of the injury.

Bayern have now revealed that their talisman will not be involved in training over the coming days.

A club statement read: ‘Harry Kane has to cut back over the coming days. The FC Bayern striker already had a knock to his calf before the Champions League match against Celtic on Tuesday night, which has led to a hematoma.’

Kane also took a heavy blow to the jaw in Bayern’s goalless draw with title rivals Bayer Leverkusen, but was passed fit to play on Tuesday.

His evening was brought to a premature end, though, as he was replaced at the interval and he is now a doubt for Bayern’s Bundesliga clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.

Should he miss out, replacing Kane will be no easy task for the German giants.

The England captain has scored 21 goals in 20 league matches this term to help his side open up an eight-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.

Kane missed two league games in December with a muscle problem. Bayern picked up three points from those matches as they beat Heidenheim but lost to Mainz.

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany will hope that Kane is able to return quickly, with the first leg of the club’s last-16 Champions League tie set to take place in the first week of March.
