Bournemouth 0-0 Crystal Palace: Andoni Iraola's side move to six games unbeaten in the Premier League as both sides fail to break the deadlock at the Vitality Stadium

A brilliant home run coming up against strong away form equalled stalemate on the South Coast.

Free-scoring Bournemouth were frustrated by Oliver Glasner’s dogged Eagles though the Cherries did extend their unbeaten streak to six games to keep alive their impressive season and hopes of a European place.

‘It’s for me too early to start looking at standings and points,’ said Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, playing down his team’s extraordinary first half of the season.

‘They don’t give any prize in the 18th game – at the end of the season we will know where we are. We are playing well, we are competing every game and as long as this continues I think we will do fine.’

Bournemouth had already beaten Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham at home, something Crystal Palace boss Glasner was only too aware of.

He said: ‘We are always going for a win but it is a very good point for us I think. Arsenal scored five goals against us and had less shots than Bournemouth had today so that shows how ruthless they are. Every point, especially away is a very good point.’

Palace were unbeaten in their last five away outings, though they don’t tend to fare well on Boxing Day. Here, they were able to recall the influential Eberechi Eze after a foot injury had ruled him out of the 5-1 home thrashing by Arsenal.

It was Glasner’s side who had the first opportunity, a shot which Jean-Phillipe Mateta pulled wide after Will Hughes had found him in a pocket of space.

Dango Ouattara was finding space down the Bournemouth left and had sight of goal after 20 minutes but put his shot just beyond the far post.

Palace then had the ball in the net as Ismaila Sarr neatly finished off Jefferson Lerma’s slipped pass but the Senegalese forward had strayed offside in the buildup.

The second half started with much greater impetus than the first. Eze went close with a driven shot from the edge of the area, pushed away by Kepa. From the ensuing break, Bournemouth’s attack ended with Justin Kluivert blasting a loose ball at goal, only for it to strike a Palace defender on the line.

Bournemouth had scored in their previous ten games, with 10 of their 27 goals so far this season coming in the final 15 minutes. They were struggling to find anyway through a resolute Palace but Antoine Semenyo did flash a shot across the face of the goal to bring Glasner racing from his seat.

The Cherries continued to press and both Evanilson and Philip Billing also saw their low shots go just the wrong side of the far post.

Palace had a late chance when Daichi Kamada fired over from Daniel Munoz’s low cross but the game finished goalless.
