Bruno Fernandes taunts Euro 2024 rivals England before Slovakia clash

Manchester United and Portugal star Bruno Fernandes did not miss a chance to aim a cheeky dig at one of his nation’s Euro 2024 rivals.

The 29-year-old helped his country progress from the group stages in Germany, with wins in each of their opening games before defeat by Georgia when qualification was already confirmed.

Despite the shock loss to the European minnows, Portugal remain one of the most impressive sides in the competition and have lived up to their pre-tournament billing, unlike the Three Lions – who face Slovakia in the last-16 on Sunday.

Joining his fellow Portugal international Ruben Dias on Pro Direct Soccer’s YouTube channel with Angry Ginge and Yung Filly, Fernandes took the chance to aim a hilarious jibs at Gareth Southgate’s side.

The Premier League footballers took on the social media influencers in a game of FC 2024 but quickly found themselves 4-0 down, playing as their native country, while Ginge and Filly played as the Three Lions.

‘The only thing I have to say is that this is the only chance England has to beat Portugal is on the PlayStation.’ The midfielder said. ‘We’ll give you that.’

Roberto Martinez’s side were rewarded with a last-16 tie against Slovenia, as they look to lift the trophy for the second time.

The teams will turn out at the Frankfurt Arena on Monday night to earn the right to meet the winners of France’s clash with Belgium earlier that day.

On the other side of the draw, England hope to make quick work of Slovakia in Gelsenkirchen and build confidence in their ability to claim the country’s maiden triumph in the competition.

Southgate opted to make one change from the team that were held to a poor 0-0 with Slovenia, replacing Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher with Kobbie Mainoo – who made an impact after coming off the bench in that game.

England and Portugal cannot meet until the final in Berlin on July 14.
