Clive Tyldesley and Ally McCoist celebrate final ITV game with wine in Germany

Clive Tyldesley and Ally McCoist celebrated their final game commentating together on ITV by drinking wine long into the evening out in Germany.

The 69-year-old has worked for the broadcaster for the last 28 years but has been axed, with his final game on the channel being the Euro 2024 last-16 tie between Germany and Denmark on Saturday, which the tournament hosts won 2-0.

Tyldesley previously revealed to Mail Sport that he ‘doesn’t know why’ he has been asked to step down, with several fans also hitting out at the decision to remove the popular commentator.

McCoist and Tyldesley have formed a brilliant partnership over recent times and after their final outing they made sure to mark the occasion.

In a video on Tyldesley’s Instagram account, McCoist could be seen drinking a glass of red wine as he looked slightly worse-for-wear.

McCoist hilariously replied: ‘And when you’ve got a size of head that I have Clive, there’s not a lot of space at the moment,’ before Tyldesley quipped: ‘Incoming wounded,’ which felt like a reference to a potential hangover.

Tyldesley then added: ‘Well we’ve finished so you might as well. I’m not visiting you I’m going home.’

In a later video, the 69-year-old posted a video of him playing an inflatable guitar, while singing: ‘Goodbye, goodbye, we’re leaving you, goodbye.’

This came after he had earlier shared a final shot from the commentary box alongside McCoist.

Speaking to Mail Sport this week, Tyldesley had opened up on his feelings of being axed, which came after he was stood down as ITV’s lead England commentator three years ago in favour of Sam Matterface.

He reflected on his sadness but gave fans hope that they may still be able to hear his dulcet tones elsewhere.

‘It’s a strange situation because I am not retiring and have no intention of doing so,’ he added.

‘This is not my decision – it’s theirs. If they want to highlight the fact that I have been with them a long time that’s also their decision.’
