Cole Palmer has claimed the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award following the 22-year-old’s sensational campaign.

Palmer, who joined Mauricio Pochettino’s side earlier in the season from Manchester City, has been the Blue’s star man, scoring 22 goals in 33 Premier League appearances this season, while also returning 10 assists.

In recent weeks, his goal scoring form has showed no sign of relenting. He has been a shining light in Chelsea’s resurgence at the back end of the season, scoring twice in their last three matches, propelling Pochettino’s side into contention for a place in Europe next season.

The 22-year-old star, who is second in the Premier League’s golden boot race to Erling Haaland, beat off competition from some excellent rising stars to win the award, including Phil Foden, who is a favourite to clinch this year’s Player of the Season award.

It comes after eagle-eyed Chlesea fans last week noticed what their attacking midfielder had set as his phone screen background.

Upon arriving at the Amex Stadium for Chelsea’s 2-1 victory Brighton earlier this week, supporters online noticed that Palmer had set an image of the PFA Player of the Year trophy as his lock screen.

The image suggest that Palmer is determined to do all he can to claim the award, using the image as motivation.

Palmer was one of eight players to be nominated for the prestigious award, including Newcastle star Alexander Isak, Man United’s Kobbie Mainoo, Bukayo Saka of Arsenal, his team-mate William Saliba and Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie.
