England fans led by Piers Morgan heaped criticism on Gareth Southgate after he decided against making any half-time changes in their Euro 2024 last-16 knockout clash against Slovakia.

England players and management staff were greeted by a chorus of boos as they left the pitch at half-time during their Euro 2024 last-16 tie against Slovakia.

All hopes of a tournament-awakening performance against their European opponents were quickly extinguished when Slovakia took a shock lead in the 25 minute.

Ivan Schranz fired England’s opponents ahead during a breakaway attack and there was little to suggest the scoreline would change in the build-up to the interval.

Gareth Southgate has faced criticism over his side’s underwhelming performances in the group stage and backed players to change their fortunes in Gelsenkirchen in a bid to avoid a major upset.

However, England’s first-half showing against Slovakia displayed the same slow and ineffective attacking play that has shadowed the team in Germany.

Slovakia’s defence looked confident after taking an early lead, while goalkeeper Martin Dubravka failed to be tested even once.

Boos voiced by England supporters echoed around the Veltins-Arena as players trudge off the pitch, while others vented their frustration on social media.

Southgate had been urged to make half time changes in a bid to improve his team’s performance, but opted to ignore suggestions in favour of keeping the same players on the pitch.
