Enzo Maresca addresses Cole Palmer injury concerns

Enzo Maresca played down talk of Chelsea’s superstar Cole Palmer picking up an injury in their Conference League win on Thursday.

Palmer was spotted holding his hamstring as he walked straight down the tunnel at full-time. He had been introduced in the 58th minute with the Blues struggling to break down the Swiss visitors Servette.

Chelsea went on to win 2-0 to secure Maresca his first competitive victory as head coach but there were fears that Palmer picked up a problem on this European evening.

Ahead of facing Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday, Maresca said: ‘Cole, he felt something but he looks fine.

‘They have already checked him. He looks fine, he is okay. Hopefully there is no problem and he can be involved in Sunday’s game.’

Palmer will need to be checked on Friday to see if he can be involved in full training ahead of the trip to Molineux.

Chelsea finally scored their first competitive goals of the Maresca era, with Christopher Nkunku dispatching a penalty and Noni Madueke grabbing their second.

On whether Madueke will stay at Chelsea amid talk of him being available for sale, Maresca said: ‘The reality is until the transfer window is open, anything can happen. But for sure, Noni is the type of player I like.’
