An FA Trophy clash was abandoned on Tuesday evening after a player was rushed to hospital after suffering a medical emergency on the pitch.
The Third-Round tie between Gateshead and Farsley Celtic had been played for just shy of 30 minutes when play was suspended.
Celts captain Lewis Turner was attended to by medical staff who came onto the pitch in the 29th minute, before being taken away in an ambulance.
As per the Sun, Turner’s team-mates had been overcome with emotion, with some even reduced to tears, as they called for help. They were later sent to the dressing room by the referee.
The 32-year-old was described as having suffered ‘a serious injury’ in a social media post shared by the club shortly after the shocking incident at the Gateshead International Stadium.
The trophy holders shared their own post on social media site X, discussing the decision to postpone the tie – which the hosts lead 1-0.
