Fans laid into Cristiano Ronaldo on social media after the 40-year-old blew his lid when Jhon Duran was sent off for Al-Nassr on Friday night.

The Saudi side fell to a 3-2 defeat by Al-Ettifaq, as they now lie fourth in the table after being leapfrogged by Al-Qadasiya.

Just four games into his time in the Gulf state, Duran was controversially shown red in the 95th minute, after gently tapping Abdulelah Al-Malki’s head.

The Al-Ettifaq midfielder made a meal of the contact, going to ground and rolling around clutching his head.

This was enough to convince the referee to dismiss Duran, which led to Ronaldo throwing a fit and eventually booting the ball away from the kick-off spot into the stands.

Prior to this, the striker was seen angrily gesticulating to the linesman, throwing his arms in the air and protesting the decision.

Ronaldo then proceeded to walk towards the dugout and had more words for the fourth official.

Fans took to social media to blast the veteran forward, labelling his behaviour ’embarrassing’.

One wrote on X: ‘Continues to embarrass himself.’

Another said: ‘This f****** manchild should have gotten a yellow card for that.’

A third commented: ‘It’s literally his league. There’s no one that can punish him and that’s why he does these things.’

Al-Nassr boss Stefano Pioli was less than impressed by his forward duo’s antics, implying that the decision was unfair, but that his players should have kept their cool.

‘I’m not happy with the red card, [but] our players have to be calm,’ he said.

Pioli then argued that Al-Nassr’s defeat was down the individual errors, as two of their opponent’s goals were due to individual errors, while Duran and Ronaldo missed a big chance each at the other end.

‘We could have played better, but mistakes cost me a lot today and caused the loss,’ the Italian manager added.

‘Today’s match started well and we took the lead, but what made the difference were the mistakes.

‘Everyone is responsible for mistakes, I am the first one responsible for correcting mistakes and we do the work very seriously.

‘We did not lose the match for tactical reasons, but because of the individual mistakes we made.’
