Fantasy Premier League: The Liverpool and Aston Villa players to target for Double Gameweek 25 – with Mo Salah's predicted points revealed and a low-owned differential preferred over Marcus Rashford

admin

A second Double Gameweek in as many weeks is just around the corner in FPL – and if it’s as high scoring as the last, managers are in for a treat.

FPL players bagged a remarkable 87 points on average during Double Gameweek 24, with Mohamed Salah registering yet another ridiculous haul, Beto proving the differential to own from Everton and Toffees boss David Moyes rewarding anyone who activated their Assistant Manager chip.

Now, ahead of Double Gameweek 25, it’s Liverpool and Aston Villa who are about to play twice each, with the Reds facing Wolves and Unai Emery’s side taking on Ipswich before the two teams collide at Villa Park next Wednesday.

Managers who heavily invested in Liverpool players will already be well set up for the double, despite their disappointing late 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

However, now is also an exciting time to invest in Villa, who have a handful of tempting assets from Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins to new signings Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio.

But where should you invest ahead of a second successive double? And which players are predicted to score the most points in Gameweek 25?

Fantasy Football Hub expert HOLLY SHAND takes a look at who the supercomputer are backing.

Best Captain Pick: Mohamed Salah (£13.7m)

15.5 predicted points

The AI is once again predicting Mohamed Salah to be the standout asset of the double gameweek, with a prediction more than five points higher than any other player.

Significantly, his prediction is also higher than it was going into Double Gameweek 24.

He will be the most popular captain pick this week and for those managers still holding the Triple Captain chip, this will likely be the final opportunity to play it on the Egyptian this season, due to Liverpool’s failure to progress past the FA Cup fourth round.

Salah equalled his best ever gameweek total last time out, with 29 points across two fixtures.

He has already produced double digit hauls against his opponents Ipswich Town and Aston Villa earlier in this campaign, amassing 24 points in total across the two games.

Best Differential Pick: Dominik Szoboszlai (£6.3m)

8.4 predicted points

Liverpool assets have rapidly grown in popularity in recent weeks, due to having back to back double gameweeks.

However, midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who is playing advanced and central, remains a differential in less than 3% of sides.

Szoboszlai has recently won his place back in the team, starting five consecutive games in the Premier League, with a goal and an assist in the 4-1 win against Ipswich Town. We could expect a similar performance for the visit of Wolves on Sunday.

That takes him up to nine attacking returns for the campaign, with the Hungarian an option for those managers not currently tripled up on Liverpool assets. However, the smart play is to instead back Arne Slot with the Assistant Manager chip.

Best Defender Pick: Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m)

10.2 predicted points

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to the matchday squad against Everton, playing 29 minutes from the bench as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

With fixtures coming in quick succession, it’s a stab in the dark to predict his minutes across the games against Wolves and Aston Villa.

His high AI prediction is due to his attacking threat, with seven goal involvements for the season, including assists in the recent games against Brentford and Ipswich Town. He leads the way among defenders for both key passes (45) and big chances created (14).

Liverpool remain one of the best defences in the Premier League this season, joint top with Nottingham Forest on ten clean sheets. Liverpool also have the best record for goals conceded (21). Ipswich Town have failed to score in two of their last four games.

Best Aston Villa Pick: Ollie Watkins (£8.9m)

8.8 predicted points

Ollie Watkins remains the standout pick for the AI from Aston Villa, marginally ahead of Morgan Rogers (8.5 predicted points), despite being an injury doubt. He’s predicted to play 124 minutes across the two fixtures, with Unai Emery’s press conference coming on Friday afternoon.

Watkins was out of favour in December but won his place back in the side when Jhon Duran was suspended and has since returned to form, with two goals and one assist in the last four gameweeks. Duran has since departed the club to the Saudi Pro League.

We know from the 2023/24 season the high levels Watkins is capable of reaching, with 37 goal involvements in 37 starts. Watkins scored 11 FPL points in the reverse fixture against Ipswich Town, notching a goal and an assist in the 2-2 draw.

Best Single Gameweek Pick: Cole Palmer (£11.2m)

6.9 predicted points

For the second consecutive double gameweek, it’s Chelsea’s Cole Palmer who leads the way for potential among the single gameweek assets. However, he doesn’t make the top ten AI predictions, sitting 16th in the list, behind five Aston Villa and ten Liverpool assets.

Palmer was the standout player in the reverse fixtures, scoring all four goals in the 4-2 win against Brighton at Stamford Bridge, to produce the highest fantasy return of any player in a single gameweek this season, with 25 fantasy points.

Chelsea and Palmer’s recent form hasn’t been as mouthwatering, with just two wins in four and two attacking returns in this time.

Brighton were the 2-1 victors in this same fixture in the FA Cup last weekend, but have recently conceded seven goals to Nottingham Forest.
