Lamine Yamal’s father has been discharged from hospital as he continues his recovery from a brutal stabbing attack in a cark park in Spain.

Mounir Nasraoui, 35, was rushed for emergency care after being attacked in his hometown of Mataro, a city near Barcelona, on Wednesday evening.

According to reports in Spain, he was assaulted by a group of people he had met earlier in the day while walking his dog and suffered multiple stab wounds.

Catalan police confirmed three people were arrested shortly after the incident while a fourth suspect was detained on Thursday morning.

Nasraoui was admitted to an intensive care unit in a serious condition but several hours after the shock stabbing was said to be stable.

His superstar son Yamal, a Euro 2024 winner with Spain, was spotted leaving the hospital on Thursday, having reported for training with Barcelona that morning.

The investigation into the attack remains ongoing and the motivation is unknown.

A police spokesman said: ‘I can confirm three people have been arrested following the stabbing of a man in the neighbourhood of Rocafonda in Mataro.

‘The investigation is still open and officers are still trying to establish the level of implication of those detained.’

The force declined to offer details on the ages and nationalities of those arrested.

Police are said to have been alerted by a man described locally as Nasraoui’s best friend following the stabbing in Frank Marshall Street.

A well-placed police source said on Thursday: ‘The knife wounds the victim suffered haven’t affected any vital organ and his life is not in danger.’

Barcelona president Joan Laporta was among those to visit Nasraoui on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old, who lives in the Rocafonda neighbourhood where Yamal grew up, took to social media yesterday to provide an update on his condition.

‘Thank you all for your encouragement, I’m better now,’ he wrote on Instagram.

Nasraoui has been his son’s biggest supporter during his fledgling career and was present as the 17-year-old secured the European Championship trophy with Spain.

Yamal was his country’s standout performer at the tournament and his father previously declared the wonderkid could become ‘greater than [Lionel] Messi’.
