Benni McCarthy is reportedly set to become the new manager of a national team.
McCarthy left United in the summer after two years as a member of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff, primarily working with the club’s forwards.
it was reported by The Athletic at the time that the former Blackburn striker wanted to get back into the dugout as a manager.
And it looks as if he will be doing just that with Goal claiming he will become the next manager of Kenya in January, barring any last-minute changes.
His only previous managerial experience came in South Africa, where he took charge of Cape Town and AmaZulu.
Kenya have been looking for a new boss since Engin Firat left his post following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
It was reported earlier this year that Ten Hag made a request for McCarthy to stay before penning his new deal but he did not get his wish.

McCarthy was praised for helping Marcus Rashford to have his best-ever season in 2022-23, during which he scored 30 goals in all competitions.
He has not been afraid to speak out on matters at Old Trafford since leaving, accusing Ten Hag of lacking passion prior to his sacking.
McCarthy was asked by Portuguese publication ZEROZERO this week why United have struggled to be more competitive in games.
‘In modern football, I believe that players want to see a bit more passion in their coach,’ McCarthy said.
‘They need to feel that the coach is with them and willing to fight alongside them.
‘Tactically, I feel that Erik is at the top. He lacks a bit of that fire, that passion. That’s where we differ, him and I.’
