Former Wales manager Chris Coleman has been confirmed as manager of Belgian top flight side OH Leuven.

The 54-year-old recently left his role at Cypriot side AEL Limassol, where he had only been in charge since May.

The Welshman left the club by mutual consent and has quickly found a new job with OH Leuven, who sit fourth from bottom in the Belgium Pro League.

Leuven chief Frederic Van den Steen said he was very pleased with the arrival of the new coach.

‘Chris Coleman has proven several times that he can forge a group and that he can make players better.

‘He is a real people manager, and his experience at the highest level will help our team and our club in our further development.’

Coleman managed Wales for five years and led them to the semi-finals of Euro 2016

Sporting director Gyorgy Csepregi added: ‘we have learned lessons from the previous passages.

‘We went for someone with a good track record to create a structure, team and identity in a good organization. We are certain that such a character was the missing link to stand in front of the boys in the dressing room,’ concludes the sporting director.

Limassol said following his departure: ‘we sincerely thank Mr Coleman for his contribution to our team during our partnership. His ethos and character are elements that have won the respect of all who make up our football department.

‘We wish him every success in the next phase of his career, as well as health and happiness on a personal level.’

Coleman was manager of Wales for five years between 2012 and 2017 and saw the nation climb up to eighth in the world rankings, their best ever position.

He also led the team to the semi-finals of Euro 2016, where they were beaten by eventual winners Portugal.
