Harry Kane Vows Lifelong Support for Tottenham as He Applauds Coach Postecoglou’s Stellar Beginning, Undefeated in Premier League

Former Tottenham striker Harry Kane insisted he would ‘keep an eye on the club for the rest of his life’ after joining Bayern Munich this summer as he praised their ‘fantastic’ start under Ange Postecoglou.

Kane moved to the German giants for £100million, ending his 19-year association with his boyhood club Spurs, with the England captain opting for a new challenge with just a year remaining on his deal.

It ended heavy speculation that Kane would depart – and he has already made a quick impression at Bayern Munich by scoring four goals in his first four games, with the 30-year-old hoping to continue his form against Manchester United in their Champions League opener.

Kane left an emotional message for Tottenham when his Bayern move was confirmed and ahead of the United game he was asked by reporters if he had been watching his old club’s positive start to the campaign.

Spurs are unbeaten in the league under their new Australian coach, with new signing James Maddison impressing and Son Heung-min stepping up in his absence.

Kane said he was pleased to see the team playing attacking football once again and vowed to keep checking on their progress ‘for the rest of my life’.

‘In terms of Tottenham, yeah fantastic start,’ Kane told the media. ‘I’m always keeping an eye on them. I think I’ll always keep an eye on Tottenham for the rest of my life.

‘I’m really happy to see the team playing the way they are and of course to see their fans happy as well is a great feeling.

‘I’m sure they’ll be excited to keep that up. They have a massive game coming up so yeah for sure, I’ll see how they get on over the course of the season.’

Kane scored a remarkable 307 goals in 514 Spurs appearances in all competitions, registering 80 assists, but in leaving the Premier League may fall short of Alan Shearer’s all time scoring record in the competition.

Kane’s words come after Daniel Levy, speaking at a fans forum alongside Son and Postecoglou on Tuesday night, revealed Tottenham have inserted a buy-back clause in his Bayern Munich contract.

The striker left the door open to a return to Spurs in the future when he recorded his video message for fans in August telling them he would be leaving the club.

Kane said: ‘I wanted to be the first to tell you Tottenham fans that I’ll be leaving the club today.

‘Obviously a lot of emotions going through me right now; sad to be leaving the club I’ve spent nearly 20 years of my life at, from 11-year-old boy to a 30-year-old man now.

‘There’s been so many great moments and special memories, memories that I will cherish forever. I felt like it was the time to leave. I didn’t want to go into the season with a lot of unresolved future talk.

‘I think it’s important for the new manager and the players to concentrate on trying to get Tottenham back to around the top of the table and fighting for trophies so I wish Ange [Postecoglou] and all the boys all the very best of luck.

‘I’ll be watching from a fan point of view now and really hope the team can be successful. It’s not a goodbye, because you never know how things pan out in the future’, he said.

Kane was strongly linked with a move to United – who he will hope to get on the scoresheet against on Wednesday night – though boss Erik ten Hag stressed he has no regrets about his failure to sign him.

‘No [regrets]. I think we’ve discussed it. We are happy with Rasmus [Hojlund].

‘In the first game, he was injured. He played against Arsenal, he’s had a start (against Brighton), and now we have to integrate him in the team. You can see he’s a big talent.’
