The was a big debate during the latest episode of It’s All Kicking Off!
It began with Ian Ladyman and Chris Sutton discussing Luis Suarez’s decision to call time on his international career.
While acknowledging his faults, Sutton hailed Suarez – scorer of 69 goals in 142 games for Uruguay – as a ‘genius’.
‘Just imagine being a centre half playing against Luis Suarez,’ added Sutton – who, despite being a striker for most of his career, played as a central defender multiple times.
‘You know you’re in for a horrible, horrible afternoon because the guy never stops. We know about his misdemeanours and all the biting and his aggression. But having said all that, the guy was highly intelligent as a footballer, he had wonderful awareness.’

Sutton went on to describe Suarez as ‘one of the very best strikers of his generation’ before asking Ladyman where he would rank the ex-Liverpool star among the likes of Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane.
After much deliberation, Ladyman decided that Suarez was ahead of that trio – but still behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Stating his case, Ladyman said: ‘Harry Kane is a world class footballer. Luis Suarez was a genius.’
