Jamie Carragher has hit out at Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo for ‘playing like the game is in slow motion’ against Manchester United on Sunday.
Liverpool’s quadruple hopes went down in smoke after their bitter rivals Manchester United came from behind to secure a 4-3 victory in extra-time at Old Trafford.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were left to rue a host of missed opportunities, after failing to put the game to bed in the second-half when they were the better side.
Liverpool legend Carragher described their attacking players as ‘very poor’ on Sunday, and singled out Netherlands international Gakpo for criticism.
He tweeted: ‘Gakpo plays like the game is in slow motion.’

Carragher said the 24-year-old Dutch forward ‘plays like the game is in slow speed’

Carragher added that Liverpool’s forwards were ‘very poor’ in the defeat at Old Trafford
The Sky Sports pundit added: ‘Unbelievable game & it’s a great result for Man United but Liverpool only have themselves to blame.
‘Scored three & still the attacking players were all very poor. Can’t complain too much as they’ve been amazing all season. Football bloody hell!’
Gakpo came on for Mohamed Salah in the 77th minute of the game at a time when the Reds held the lead.
He struggled to get involved in the game however, with just one chance from an Alexis Mac Allister cross.
Antony’s 87th minute strike took the game to extra time, before the Red Devils sealed the win with goals from Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo.
Gakpo went into the season as Liverpool’s first choice No 9 ahead of Darwin Nunez.
The 24-year-old has scored 13 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions this season – albeit 17 of those games have come off the bench.
However, this figure is lower than Salah, Nunez and the injured Diogo Jota.

Gakpo though has not been able to consistently play in one position – playing across the front three and in an attacking midfield position this season.
A potential contributing factor behind his lacklustre performance is that Klopp revealed that he might have twisted his ankle during the game.
The German said Gakpo, Nunez and Luis Diaz all suffered issues that will need to be monitored ahead of their respective national fixtures.
He said: ‘Now, the boys go on international duty, they have to recover. We hope they come back healthy. We had some problems. Lucho (Diaz) felt his groin, Darwin his hamstring, hopefully it is not. And Cody has twisted his ankle I think. I didn’t see it back, so we have to see.‘
