John Terry’s Premier League Title Prediction and Thoughts on Tottenham’s Finish

admin

Chelsea legend John Terry has predicted how the Premier League run-in will play out as the title race gathers momentum.

Arsenal moved three points clear at the top of the table on Tuesday night with an emphatic 5-0 win against Chelsea, but they have played a game more than second-placed Liverpool who face Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park tonight.

Manchester City are a further point back but have two games in hand on the Gunners, and still have their fate in their own hands.

Pep Guardiola’s team are looking to become the first team ever to win the Premier League four times in a row, and Terry, who was inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame this week, has backed them to get the job done.

Taking part in a ‘blind ranking’ challenge, City popped up first to Terry’s relief as he had no hesitation in putting them ‘straight in at No1.’

Of the remaining title contenders, Arsenal came up next, and Terry placed the north London club third, before tipping Liverpool to finish second in Jurgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield.

Chelsea’s arch-rivals Tottenham appeared twice in the challenge, and Terry could not bring himself to even rank them as he opted to ‘skip’ on both occasions, such is his dislike for the club.

Instead, he reluctantly tipped Manchester United to finish fourth despite the Red Devils enduring a disappointing campaign under Erik ten Hag.

United are currently 16 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa, albeit they have two games in hand on the Midlands club.

They are also 10 points adrift of Spurs in fifth having played the same number of matches, but Terry still refused to predict that Tottenham would finish above them. However, he did add that he expected Villa would actually take fourth place, but they were not an option in the rankings.

Terry moved on to having his say on who would finish as the league’s top goalscorer, and another Tottenham player – Son Heung-min – popped up.

Once again, Terry was having none of it and skipped the chance to select the Spurs skipper, who has 15 Premier League goals, five behind Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer.

Villa’s Ollie Watkins was next, and Terry was more than happy with that as he declared: ‘I’ll take Ollie Watkins all day long, top player’.

Watkins is firmly in the hunt for the Golden Boot, with the forward having scored 19 top flight goals this term.

Terry has never hidden his disdain for Tottenham, with the former centre back aiming digs at them even during his playing days.

When Chelsea came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Spurs at Stamford Bridge in 2016, ending Tottenham’s title hopes in the process, Terry revelled in their misery as he posted ‘#notonmyshift’ on Instagram.

He has continued to go after the north London side since retiring, and was involved in a brutal exchange with James Maddison after Chelsea beat nine-man Spurs 4-1 earlier this season.

Terry posted a picture of himself celebrating the victory with his wife Toni by drinking tequila and dancing and singing on the bar at their home.

When Maddison replied by inferring that Spurs had dominated before having two player sent off, Terry hit back as he told the attacking midfielder: ‘Madders, don’t worry mate you will get used to it’ – implying Chelsea will continue to beat Tottenham in future London derbies.

Terry’s confidence in his old club will be put to the test when they host Tottenham at Stamford Bridge next Thursday.
