Keane Labels Burn’s OG as ‘Comical’

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has labelled Dan Burn’s own-goal against Tottenham as ‘comical’.

Newcastle continued their bright start to the season with a 2-1 win over Ange Postecoglou’s men at St James’ Park.

However, Burn suffered misfortune as he found the roof of his own-net in the 56th minute after Harvey Barnes had opened the scoring.

Fortunately for the defender, Alexander Isak went on to score the winner with 12 minutes remaining to spare his blushes.

However, Keane was critical Burn, saying on Sky Sports: ‘It was almost comical really. He’s got time to clear it’.

Fans also took to social media to criticise the own-goal, with one saying: ‘One of the messiest goals I’ve ever seen, fair play.’

A second posted: ‘Trouble with men’s football is-it’s hard to take seriously with defending & goalkeeping like this, isn’t it? Emphatic finish from Dan Burn, though.’

‘Absolute pathetic . You expect that type of keeping and clearance in Sunday league level,’ said another.

Meanwhile, other fans were quick to heap praise on Burn’s overall performance against Spurs.

‘Mind I thought Dan burn was outstanding today, barring the own goal obviously, against a really fast spurs frontline he did class’, a fourth posted on X.

The win against Postecoglou’s men secured Newcaslte’s seventh point from a possible nine ahead of the upcoming international break.
