Jurgen Klopp has hilariously revealed he ‘doesn’t like James Maddison’ because of one key reason that he believes cost Liverpool the Premier League title in 2019.

Liverpool and Klopp’s long-term managerial rival Man City boss Pep Guardiola were going neck-and-neck for the top-flight crown five-years ago when Vincent Kompany scored arguably the greatest goal of his career to ruin the Reds’ hopes.

Former City captain and now-Burnley head coach, Vincent Kompany, stunned the Etihad – and Liverpool – when he scored the winning goal against Leicester with a long-range strike into the top corner to essentially hand Guardiola a second Premier League title.

City went on to beat Liverpool to the league trophy by a single point and Klopp evidently still holds a grudge over Maddison after he failed to stop Kompany getting a shot on goal.

The Liverpool boss will say goodbye to Anfield for the final time on Sunday against Wolves after deciding to leave the club at the end of the season.

Klopp explained his feelings to Spurs and England star, Maddison, by telling Redmen TV: ‘The moment when Vincent Kompany touched the ball there, I am really happy I didnt get a troke in that moment as that’s how it must feel.

‘I remember exactly how I was lying on the sofa watching and thinking ‘Maddison block him, close him down’.

‘Since then I don’t like Maddison. Leicester played really good first half, after that they should have scored.

‘It’s just a personal thing, I have no problem with him, but when I see him it’s… and now I saw him again last weekend,’ he added.

Maddison continued at Leicester for several years before joining Ange Postecoglou’s revolution at Spurs in a £45m transfer at the end of last season.

Klopp recently came face-to-face with Maddison when Liverpool beat Tottenham at the start of May, after Liverpool had crashed out of the title race and leaving Arsenal and Man City to battle it out at the top.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are expected to announce their new head coach following the conclusion of the season with Feyenoord manager Arne Slot favourite to succeed the German.
