An England legend will be Lee Carsley’s assistant for his spell as interim England manager.

It was confirmed earlier this month that Carsley, who has impressed in charge of England’s Under-21 side, will take charge of the senior team on an interim basis following the departure of Gareth Southgate.

Southgate’s tenure as England manager came to an end after the Three Lions were beaten by Spain in the final of Euro 2024, with his assistant Steve Holland also departing.

It has been revealed that Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who had been part of the England coaching setup since March 2023, will be leaving his role following Southgate’s departure.

Carsley will be in the dugout when England face the Republic of Ireland away and Finland at home in the Nations League next month. Former Everton player Carsley earned 40 caps for Ireland during his playing career.

Former England star Ashley Cole will be Carsley’s assistant, as confirmed by England Football.

Ex-Chelsea and Arsenal defender Cole was capped by England on 107 occasions between 2001 and 2014. He is currently a first-team coach at Birmingham.
