Liam Delap’s father, Rory, wrote his name into Premier League folklore with a long throw-in that defied the laws of physics.
But if Liam makes a habit of scoring goals like the belter he struck against Fulham on Saturday, he won’t have to worry about making his own name in the top flight.
Eyebrows were raised when Ipswich forked out £20million to take Delap off Manchester City’s hands.
After all, he had only played twice in the league for City and his only other taste of senior football had come in loan spells at Stoke, Preston, and Hull.
Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has nonetheless thrown his weight behind Delap, trusting the 21-year-old to lead the line.
Liam Delap netted his first Premier League goal in emphatic fashion as Ipswich drew with Fulham on Saturday
In doing so the 21-year-old took the first step in replicating the top-flight success of his father, throw-in king Rory
He was repaid here when Delap scored a fine goal, the club’s first at Portman Road in the Premier League for 22 years.
‘I enjoyed his all-round performance,’ said McKenna. ‘Each week he’s getting better, stronger, learning. He’s still got great growth to come.’
Adama Traore denied the hosts their first win with a thumping first-half finish.
