Liverpool’s Arne Slot era began with a 2-0 win away at Premier League new boys Ipswich Town on Saturday.
Ipswich, back in the Premier League following a 22-year absence, competed well during the first half and did not look intimidated by facing a Liverpool side that had finished in the Premier League’s top five in each of the past eight campaigns.
But the Reds took charge after the interval – during which Ipswich’s most famous fan, Ed Sheeran, had to leave Portman Road in order to travel to Serbia for a gig.
Diogo Jota scored Liverpool’s first goal since the departure of Jurgen Klopp on the hour mark following a cool assist by Mo Salah.
Salah doubled Liverpool’s advantage five minutes later by scoring on the opening weekend of a Premier League season for the ninth time in his career.
