Luton Town Reach Out to BBC Pundit Garth Crooks to Challenge His Assertion of Relegation before Christmas

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has revealed that the club have contacted Garth Crooks to show him that he’s wrong after the BBC pundit tipped them to be relegated before Christmas.

It has been a challenging start for Luton in their first top flight campaign since 1991-92, with Edwards’ side losing their first three games.

After defeats away to Brighton and Chelsea, Luton lost 2-1 to West Ham in their first home game.

That result prompted criticism from Crooks, who said that he can’t take Luton seriously.

Crooks wrote in his team of the week column: ‘It’s good to see the tangerine colours of Luton back in the big league once more, but I can’t take them seriously, and see them down by Christmas.’

Edwards wasn’t pleased with Crooks’ comments, stating that the former Tottenham player had been ‘disrespectful’.

As reported by BBC Sport, Edwards said: ‘I think after three games it is disrespectful. It does hurt when you hear comments like that. When people tell you that, it’s hard to shy away from it.

‘At this level in the Premier League you’re going to be shot at, people are going to have their opinions and I suppose that’s what he’s paid to do but I think it was a disrespectful comment.’

Edwards stated that Luton have invited Crooks to visit the club in order to show him their vision.

He said: ‘We have reached out to Mr Crooks so he can come in and we can show him what we do with our plan and that we’re not a team to be laughed at.

‘Our job is to get good results and performances and to change people’s minds.’

Luton are back in action on Saturday when they face Fulham away. They then host Wolves before travelling to take on Everton.

There have been concerns over Luton’s defence in the early stages of the campaign, with Edwards’ team having let in nine goals across three games. 

Meanwhile, Luton have managed to find the net on just two occasions.
