Manchester United have confirmed that Lisandro Martinez has damaged the cruciate ligament in his left knee after the Argentina defender was carried off in Sunday’s defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

United have not put a timescale on Martinez’s rehabilitation, but it’s understood the 27-year-old could be out of action for up to six months.

A club statement read: ‘Manchester United can confirm that Lisandro Martinez suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament in Sunday’s game against Crystal Palace.

The World Cup winner had already missed more than three months of last season due to complications with a broken metatarsal suffered at the end of his first campaign in England.
