Man United star 'wants to LEAVE in January' to be reunited with former boss after Ruben Amorim previously identified major 'concern' with his ability

One Manchester United star has decided they want to leave the club in the January transfer window after being singled out for criticism by new manager Ruben Amorim, according to reports.

Amorim’s reign as United boss will encounter it’s third test on Sunday as Everton travel to Old Trafford with the Portuguese still getting to grips with his new squad.

Former manager Erik ten Hag spent over £600m on new signings across two entire seasons at the club and Amorim must now sort through the chaos left following the Dutchman’s exit.

Another heavy summer of spending saw the club’s INEOS-backed sporting department bolster the first-team with five new recruits and one of those players is now targeting an exit after less than six months at the club.

Matthijs De Ligt, Manuel Ugarte, Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazsroui, and Joshua Zirkzee all arrived at Carrington in the summer and each have endured various fortunes since stepping foot in arguably England’s biggest club.

Amorim wants to impose his favoured 3-4-3 system on players in a bid to turnaround United’s fortunes, but is already finding out that some players might not be able to deliver on his demands.

Zirkzee has endured a nightmare start to his career in England after joining from Bologna in a £36.5m move and now wants to be reunited with former manager Thiago Motta in Italy, as reported by La Gazzetta.

Motta is now in charge of Juventus and previously got the best out of the Dutchman when the pair worked together at Bologna last season where they helped take the club into the Champions League.

Zirkzee scored 12 goals in 37 appearances for Bologna last season but has managed to find the back of the net just once in 18 outings with that coming on the opening day of the season.

He has been largely restricted to a bit-part role since then and now believes a move back to Italy might be the best option with Motta keen to be reunited with his former proven goalscorer.

Juventus favour a loan deal for the 23-year-old but it is yet to be seen whether United would be willing to sanction a temporary move given their own precarious position in attempting to balance FFP regulations.

United are also short of centre forward options and bringing in a new striker to support Rasmus Hojlund could require Zirkzee to leave on a permanent transfer instead.

Amorim singled out the Netherlands international after being left unimpressed by his efforts on his managerial debut against Ipswich and expressed ‘concern’ over Zirkzee’s ability with him being wasteful in possession and not making runs into the box.

He said: ‘I think that [decision-making] is a concern, you don’t need to coach them at this level.

‘You have to keep the ball and know the momentum to put the ball in front. Sometimes you feel that you can’t keep the ball and you [have to] put the ball in front.

‘Then you have like we are in the end of the game, we were around the box with two strikers. Josh [Zirkzee] has to understand that he has to go to the box to have the crosses.’

Zirkzee hasn’t started a game since United’s dismal 3-0 defeat against Tottenham in September and has largely been limited to substitute appearances.
