Former Manchester United winger Omari Forson has completed his surprise move to Italian side Monza.

Forson, 19, was offered a new contract by United in December and was given a first team opportunity by Ten Hag but failed to agree terms.

United had hoped to secure a new long-term deal with the player, but instead, the talented teenager has signed a four-year deal with the Italian team.

The move is a blow to Erik ten Hag’s side, who gave the highly-rated teen his first-team debut last season.

After being included in United’s squad for their pre-season tour last summer, Forson made bow for the club in the FA Cup win over Wigan in January.

Later that month he made his Premier League debut, when he came off the bench in their clash against Wolves, becoming the 249th academy player to make a first-team appearance.

Forson made an instant impression on proceedings, setting up the winning goal for Kobbie Mainoo in the 4-3 victory at Molineux.

He then made his full debut in the 2-1 home defeat by Fulham the following month.

In all, he made seven appearances across the season, including a cameo in United’s FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry at Wembley.

He didn’t make the squad for the FA Cup Final win over Manchester City, but the club were keen to further his development next season.

Ten Hag had made clear there is a pathway for the club’s young players to make it into the first-team, and his work with academy talent in the senior squad – such as Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho – is thought to have contributed to the manager keeping his role at Old Trafford.

United’s new minority owners INEOS undertook an end of season review in the wake of Ten Hag’s side claiming the FA Cup at the end of last month.

Tuesday saw confirmation that Ten Hag will be staying on for a third season at the helm, but only after the club entertained discussions with a number of other candidates.

Thomas Tuchel had been linked with the role after leaving Bayern Munich at the end of last season, with England manager Gareth Southgate and former Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi also thought to be under consideration.
